I heard Paul Thurrott talk about wanting to do that ages ago (maybe a couple years ago or more), and even then he thought they were working on it. Give it sometime, but you’ll head into the account settings of your Windows Phone 8.1 device and you’ll see your new primary alias in place of the old one. Now your Windows 8.1 tablet or PC, your Windows Phone 8.1 handset and other devices will automatically switch from one alias to another.
You can still use any alias to sign in to your account, but the primary alias is the email address that you’ll see when you go to the account settings of your various devices.Īt this point you can also remove any other aliases from your account. When you make an alias your primary alias it becomes the email address that appears on your various Microsoft devices. You just created a new alias, odds are you want to use it all the time over your old email address. Just be ready to verify you actually own that account. You’re more than welcome to add any outside/third-party email address as an alias. Which is why you’ll get an error message when you try and ‘add an existing email’ that’s already a Microsoft account. Unfortunately you can’t merge Microsoft accounts yet.
